By All Means: Works from South Asia and its Diaspora Press Release

We are pleased to announce By All Means – a group show by newly influential, locally based and diasporic South Asian artists whose substantial exhibition records place them on the brink of larger international recognition. Curated by Thomas Erben, this exhibition is supported by the Scope Foundation. Presented in a 200 sq. meters space, the intent of this showing is to expand knowledge of this richly active and highly diversified field of cultural production, which has already begun to be recognized as a major contribution to international art.

Plural in its usage, By All Means communicates simultaneously the openness, self-assuredness, and intensity of South Asian contemporary artistic production as well as variety of mediums employed, namely: video, photography, digital-media, painting, the graphic novel and other expanded-media-works. Furthermore, By All Means signals the multiple potentials these artists locate in South Asia’s highly diversified traditions. They view their heritage as a reservoir, and not as an obstacle, for articulating advanced, contemporary positions thus replacing the concept of rupture with unpredictable circularity.
